Determine To Be In God’s Presence

Feb 14, 2021 | Articles, Pastor Hank Kunneman

King David said, “Surely I will not come into the tabernacle of my house, nor go up into my bed; I will not give sleep to mine eyes, or slumber to mine eyelids, Until I find out a place for the LORD, an habitation for the mighty God of Jacob (Psalm 132:3-5).

Pastor Hank here. To shake off and defeat lethargy and tiredness, it requires a spiritual determination modeled by David in Psalm 132. He was determined that nothing would stop him from being in the presence of God. He stirred himself up, saying that he wouldn’t slumber or sleep until he found a place for the Lord. He definitely wasn’t going to stay in spiritual neutral. He was in high gear in his pursuit of the Lord. This is the same kind of determination that we need to stir ourselves up in the things of the Lord.

That kind of determination is a great way to defeat tiredness and spiritual apathy. It is learning how to shift gears from a life in neutral to a life running in a higher gear of spiritual fervency and pursuit. It is called stirring yourself up. It keeps you from remaining in neutral, not going anywhere or accomplishing what you want for the Lord. This shifting of gears comes through the decision to stir yourself up, regardless of how you feel.

The moment you decide to get it into gear and really prioritize the Lord, prayer, Bible reading, going to church, and your spiritual life in general, you may feel like you’re learning to drive stick in the spirit. Stick with it; you will be glad you did! If you will stick with it, the Lord will help you shift from neutral into gear until you are running smoothly on all spiritual cylinders! Don’t go through this decade stuck in neutral. God wants you to accelerate spiritually for you have a clear path before you to receive divine surprises!
